Freeski Magazine best ski shop Shoreline of TahoeYes, its true, lake Tahoe’s Number one Snowboard Shop, just got a shout out from Freeskier Magazine. Freeski magazine recognized Shoreline of Tahoe as the best freeride ski shop in South Lake Tahoe, they went on to talk about our great selection of twin tip skis, and expert advice. Wow this was a great surprise for us, we really try our best, to give the best service, and information to all who seek to improve their mountain experience. Skier or Snowboarder, we want to equip you with the gear that the Ski or snowboard industry has to offer. To us its like being the best match maker, a marriage of sorts. We listen to what our customers are saying, how they ski, where they ski, how often they ski, problems their having, and the direction they want to go with their skiing. We marry the skiers flesh and bones, to wood and metal so they can become one with their skis. This is how we became # 1 in both Skiing and snowboarding.

Mike Abeliuk

Mike Abeliuk

Over the past the past few years that Mike has worked for Shoreline we have had an on going conversation about Skating and Snowboarding as an art form. My first red neck response of course was BS! It’s just random hits and spins that’s not art. This reaction did have a bit of history behind it, I think the word “art” has come to mean anything, I mean all you have to do these days is poop in a jar, add a carrot and a door knob and call it Pop art. This mindless junk that has been cranked out for the last 40 years has worn out its welcome. Art should be disciplined, orderly, and be highly intelligent.
After seeing this filmed at Sierra at Tahoe I’m convinced that this is true art in its finest form. Mike and Anthony combine Athletes and Cameras to produce really great art work. This kind of imagery should receive higher recognition, but how do you measure such a thing? This kind of creativity will continue to be taken for granted by most who don’t realize that this is art.
The demand to consume these visual works of art have been increased by Youtube, this a good and bad thing for film makers, its great to have a medium to show case the great works but with this medium comes the copy right violation, the justification that action videos should be free. With that mind set soon this form of art work will become impossible to produce.
There is an old stereotype “the starving artist” this was the common pattern that an artist would work his whole life painting works of art, in total poverty. Some never getting recognition while alive. This could be the case too for skate and snowboard artist who struggle to be respected by a generation that demands and steals their artwork with little or no remorse for the artist.

Surfface Water Tempertures - El Niño

Surfface Water Tempertures - El Niño

July 9, 2009
NOAA scientists today announced the arrival of El Niño, a climate phenomenon with a significant influence on global weather, ocean conditions and marine fisheries. El Niño, the periodic warming of central and eastern tropical Pacific waters, occurs on average every two to five years and typically lasts about 12 months.
Sea surface temperatures along the equatorial Eastern Pacific, as of July 1, are at least one degree above average — a sign of El Niño. Animation.

NOAA expects this El Niño to continue developing during the next several months, with further strengthening possible. The event is expected to last through winter 2009-10.
So What is El Niño and why are we in Tahoe so happy to see its return? An El Niño is a temporary change in the water temperature of the Pacific ocean, in the region around the equator. You can see its effects in both the ocean and atmosphere, generally in Northern Hemisphere receives much more snow. Typically, the ocean surface warms up by a few degrees celsius. At the same time, the place where hefty thunderstorms occur on the equator moves eastward. Although those might seem like small differences, it nevertheless can have big effects on the world’s climate.

I had another great day at this event. My filming was less than perfect as I am missing a piece of my steady cam so all the follow cam shots were shaky. The lighting was flat, then it began to snow….but we still had a great time. Check out the highlights, support the sponsors, and tell them to join us next year!

buckle-up-baBuckle Up Big Air – To honor the memory of Greg Smith, one of Sierra Resort’s freestyle team members and a beloved friend to many local skiers and riders, Sierra Resort hosted a memorial slopestyle event, Buckle Up Big Air, raising $2,800. Part of the funds raised went to the Greg Smith scholarship fund for the Sierra Foundation, a non-profit organization that assists families whose children want to be a part of Sierra Resort’s competitive teams. The remaining funds will go to create a memorial terrain feature in Sierra Resort’s terrain parks, where Greg spent many happy days with his friends. The event is really grown to be a good time for the whole family, Last year My two of my daughters join me in filming the event for Kmtn TV. The Skiers and snowboarders really didn’t hold back, they came to compete. we ended up with some great footage, looking forward to this years event……Bob From SOT
