Boreal is scheduled to turn on the Castle Peak Quad lift for the earliest season opener in the resorts history this Friday, October 9th. First record was set at Boreal on October 11, 2000. Boreal’s opening will also mark the first and only resort to open in California for the 2009/10 winter season.

Boreal’s lift will operate from 9am to 4pm. Lift tickets for children ages 5-12 will be $15, adults ages 13 and up $30. College student tickets on Friday with valid student i.d. will be $15. All season passholders welcome, or buy a pass on-site at Boreal’s Last Chance Pass Sale which ends October 31st. This year’s event has been cooked up to feature all shredders willing to throw down great tricks for cash. Boreal is primed with $2,000 cash to be handed out on both Saturday and Sunday. Venue for best trick cash is the public park, open to all and built to Boreal terrain park perfection. Judges will include Robbie Sell from FUEL TV and the Boreal park crew. Wads of $20’s will be dished out from 12noon to 4pm on both days.

This year’s JPI.5 event also includes a Team Video Challenge. Registration is sold out, but come out and watch the private video session on Saturday from 5pm – 9pm. An additional $2,000 will be awarded the team with the best video, and $500 cash to the most viewed video.

Opening Day at Boreal Mountain!
Every year it’s a race to see which resort will open first in the Sierra’s. Most every year it’s Mammoth Mountain, followed by either Boreal or Heavenly. How do these mountains year after year end up opening up first year after year? lets take a close look each one of them, Boreal’s base is 7200 ft, they have picked some of the runs so clean during the summer months that it could open up with very little snow. Boreal also invested a lot of money in Snowmaking. Heavenly can’t pick their runs clean in the summer because of an environmental agency called The Tahoe regional planning Association (TRPA) The concept here in Tahoe is that the faster water can run into the lake, the worst it is for lake clarity. so logs and big rocks have to stay on the runs, which means you need more snow to open heavenly, or for that matter any other resort in the Tahoe basin. So how does Heavenly continue to be in the top 3? they own the most snowmaking equipment in all the world. Mammoth Mountain for some reason always gets the natural snow, they have some snowmaking, but year after year they get the snow. they also can pick their runs clean. Kirkwood is another resort that always seems to get the natural white….SO like most years here is the order of resorts opening in the sierra’s Mamoth was first, Boreal Second, and which resort will be 3rd, Kirkwood or Heavenly?
