The following is a letter from “Jay Panther” Long time Shoreline skiier who has made the US Ski Team, were all very happy for Jay and wish him well this coming season…
Hello,

I am writing today filled with elation as I have accomplished my life long dream…earning a spot on the U.S. Ski Team!!! I competed this past week at the U.S. Ski Team Selections event in Steamboat Springs, CO and finished second overall. This result also means I get my first two World Cup starts in Lake Placid, NY January 21 and 22.

The week was a roller coaster. The first day I qualified 3rd with the fastest run of the day and followed that up with an improved finals run that earned me 6th. The second day I was having my best run of the week in qualifying and my ski pole broke in half just after landing the top air. I was able to hold it together and finish my run with one pole but I qualified 11th which is not an ideal position to win finals. I knew I had to lay it all on the line and ski an amazing run or blow out trying. I skied the run I had to and finished second on the day and in the overall! Despite everything I never lost focus on what I had to do, ski my run.

I have attached a video from my second place run and some pictures of the new suit. I have also copied the press release to the bottom of this email. I have dedicated the last seven years of my life to this moment and all the hard work has finally paid off. The last couple of days have been a complete whirlwind and it still has not all sunk in. I am doing my best to embrace this time but am aware that this is just another step (be it the best step I have ever taken). My goals are still set on winning World Cups and ultimately the Olympics. Thank you for all your love and support.

Maddie is a great addition to the Shoreline Freeride team, She has a great record going for at a very young age. Placing top 3 in most everything she enters. Keep your eye on her she is turning heads at her home mountian Sierra at Tahoe. We can wait to ski with her this year, fresh footage is in the works.

EVENTS: Slalom, giant slalom, halfpipe, slopestyle and skiercross

GOALS: I have really big expectations and goals for this upcoming season. I will be competing in the NORAM tour and FIS events in pipe to get a better international ranking. One of my big goals this year is to go to Freestyle World Championships. I’m working very hard right now to make my career take off.

Shoreline of Tahoe loves this event because Skiers and snowboarders unite to throw down on a slopestyle course in memory of Sierra Freestyle / Freeride Skier, Greg Smith and to spread Seatbelt Safety Awareness.
Stop by and enjoy the fun, competition and great music. Feast at the outdoor BBQ and win great raffle prizes.
Amateur divisions will jam on a custom rail and/or jump line. Your choice! Prizes from the sponsors to top 3 in each division will awarded.
The Open divisions will jam on the custom jump line, with an emphasis on style, execution, and putting down a solid run. Cash purse will pay to top 5 in each Open division and top 3 in the Women’s division.
CHP will be onsite to share Seatbelt Safety Awareness.
All proceeds go towards the Sierra Education Foundation and towards building a signature feature for Greg.

Registration will be held in the Aspen Cafe before the contest from 8:00am to 9:30am. The entry fee for the amateur divisions is $25 and the pro divisions is $40. Lift tickets for competitors can be purchased at registration for $35. Competitor Parents can purchase a discounted ticket at registration for $49.

Prizes:
The 4th annual Buckle Up Big Air is boasting a $4,000 cash purse! Our judges will be expecting your tightest game. There’s awesome prizes from our sponsors for the amateurs. Here’s the breakdown for the Open and Women’s divisions:
